Blackberry Jungle Cleared and Mulched in Olalla

Blackberries are relentless. They spread fast, grow dense, and once they get a foothold along a fence line or side yard, hand tools just don't cut it. That was exactly the situation at this Olalla property - a thick wall of blackberry canes had taken over the space completely.

We brought in our Kubota compact excavator fitted with a mulching head and worked through the entire overgrown area. The mulching approach is one we use a lot for situations like this. Instead of hauling material off-site, everything gets chewed up and processed right where it stands. It's efficient, and it leaves behind a layer of natural mulch rather than a bare scraped surface.

What we ended up with is a side yard that's actually usable again. The fence line is visible and accessible, the canes are gone, and the ground is open. No giant pile of debris left behind - just a clean, flat area the homeowner can actually do something with.

Dense blackberry growth also creates a real fire hazard, especially through dry summers. Dry canes packed tight against structures or fences are the kind of fuel load that shouldn't be ignored. Clearing it out is good property maintenance and smart defensible space work at the same time.
